You can download this festive resource here. In this blog, we’re spotlighting some of our favourite titles that are sure to make your winter sparkle.
In this wintery instalment of Aisha Ahmed’s ‘Sumaya Solves It’ series, Sumaya is excited to play in the snow, but before long, she’s freezing cold and needs to head inside. She starts to wonder: how do polar animals live outside in the cold? This book is a perfect mix of fact and fiction that is ideal for young readers who are eager to learn while they read.
We quiz writers adored Kes Gray and Nick East’s picture book Brrr! Where Did the Dinosaurs Really Go? so much that we nominated it for a Quiz Writer’s Choice award!
Here’s what Peter, the quiz writer who nominated it, had to say: “Through bright, fun illustrations that ooze personality, it tells of the last days of the dinosaurs, who are struggling to stay warm as an Ice Age takes hold, and how some knitting T. rexes save the day through some fancy needlework. Yes, you read that right: knitting T-Rexes. How cool is that! And if you ever wondered why their arms were so small, now you know! This is truly a book for all ages.”
Dorling Kindersley have a book in Level 2 of their Super Readers series called Snow Dogs. It’s all about the furry friends living in the chilliest places on Earth. The Super Readers series aims to help children power up their reading skills, with all the books carefully levelled to help them progress. The publisher says that “children will love to find out about the huskies, malamutes and more and all the jobs they do in the snow!”
In Stephen Mangan’s comedic spin on a Christmas classic, Santa and all but one of his reindeer disappear! The Great Reindeer Rescue tells the story of how Holly and Dave have to fly around the globe to rescue them and save Christmas. We found this to be a cute story about friendship and Christmas, perfect for younger Middle Years readers in the winter months.
Young adult readers can’t go wrong with Let it Snow, which contains three interconnected holiday stories of love, romance, and kisses in a small town. This is a slightly older book, but it is a modern seasonal classic.
